Nutritional Substrates

...continuing the analysis of the biochemical interactions between Baseline Human physiology and the recovered Titan-era substrates.

The "Ochre Lattice" (Sample 44-A) remains the most thermodynamically puzzling. Mass spectrometry confirms it is a hyper-structured lipid chain, but the bond strength suggests it was designed to be broken by enzymes far more aggressive than standard human lipase. When Subject 7 ingested a 50g sample, we didn't observe digestion so much as a runaway exothermic reaction. The subject’s core temperature spiked to 41.5°C within forty minutes—a metabolic "venting" of excess energy that our biology simply cannot bank. The sheer lubricity of the unabsorbed portion resulted in total transit times of under twenty minutes. It slides through the baseline tract like mercury. One has to wonder if the original consumers of this block even relied on chemical hydrolysis, or if they possessed some form of internal thermal furnace we can’t replicate.

However, the "White Slab" (Sample 44-B) offers a more profound insight into the biological gap between us and the Architects.

Chemical efficiency is absolute. 100.0% bioavailability. There is no fibrous casing, no ash, no unprocessable molecular chains. It is perfect fuel, and that perfection is essentially dissolving the digestive integrity of the test group.

We are observing a rapid onset of what I’ve tentatively termed Hypotrophic Silent Gut.

Without the mechanical abrasion of waste matter ("roughage") to trigger cellular regeneration, the subjects' intestinal walls are thinning at a rate of 0.5mm per week. The body, recognizing that the heavy musculature of the muscularis propria is no longer needed to churn solid mass, begins to cannibalize the tissue. The organ is optimizing itself into a passive, permeable membrane.

The implications for re-acclimatization are grim, though scientifically fascinating.

Post-mortem analysis of Subject 9 (following the unauthorized consumption of a dried root after 120 days on the Slab) revealed a catastrophic structural failure. The atrophied intestine did not merely block; it sheared. The tissue had lost the elasticity required to accommodate solid matter. Furthermore, the mucosal barrier—the "shield" against bacteria—had degraded to near-transparency. It appears the gut biome, starved of fiber, turned on the host’s own glycoprotein lining for sustenance before finally dying off.

We must consider the possibility that the Architects did not possess a microbiome at all. If Sample 44-B is their standard staple, their digestive tract would have been a sterile, static uptake system, more akin to a root structure or a fuel line than a mammalian gut.

We are still unable to identify the purpose of the "Black Viscous" variant (Sample 44-C). It shows zero reactivity with human acid, yet the containment machinery continues to produce it in the highest quantities. Initial tests suggest it may not be caloric in nature, but rather a neural maintenance fluid, though human trials have been... inconclusive regarding retention of sanity.
